If you have been a visitor of glowwithmeraki.com, you have probably realized that I am a big advocate of pursuing the dreams and goals in your heart. I have spoken with you about moving cross country here and here. What I failed to mention in those posts however, were the aspects of moving across the country that I learned along the way. The ones I am now equipped with. How I wish so badly I could travel back in time and tell my year-younger self what I know now.
My hope in the present however, is that if you might find yourself in a similar situation, with a life altering change on your horizon, that I can comfort you in sharing what lessons I now know to be true. May you find hope and encouragement below for whatever journey you are about to embark upon and realize that you CAN so do this!
In facing the unknown, we often find our mind and hearts lingering in thoughts that can feel somewhat overwhelming. The challenge ahead may be filled with uncertainty and may appear as though it is an uphill battle.
Despite trying to stay positive to the best of my ability, I remember feelings of doubt that would start to slowly make way into my thoughts when I started to ponder and think about leaving behind the ones I loved so dearly, the process before me of attempting to find a new social circle, the thought of not knowing where I would work, and even not knowing where I would grocery shop, go to the dentist, or take our dogs to the vet.
What I didn't know however, was that those feelings of fear would translate to motivation to handle the situation at hand to the best of my ability. It is amazing how often times, we surprise ourselves by pushing through barriers and navigating challenges with strength we didn't even know we had within us all along.
If you are facing a similar journey, I hope so dearly this message reaches you. You are so very capable and you are so incredibly strong. One by one the uncertainties will slowly start to disappear and the unknown will be replaced by a new sense of familiar. The important thing is to remember that you can handle this or any other obstacle you face simple by putting one foot in front of the next and making the decision to move forward.
The feelings of being uncomfortable or immersed in uncertainties and the unknown will, overtime (even if at times it doesn't feel like it), be replaced by the gift of having stretched your boundaries, the exploration of something new, and allowing yourself to realize that you are so incredibly capable of things you didn't even realize.
Sometimes a challenge can actually be a gift. Something that enables us to grow, to learn new lessons, to realize how little possession and rather, how much the people in our lives matter. Looking back now, I wish I could tell myself, who only a year ago packed everything into a single moving van, just how grateful I would be for this challenge, this move. What you discover will ease your worry and help you realize the value of what is truly important in this world...all stemming from saying "yes" to something in your heart.
