Hello dearest reader.
This morning, I hope to encourage you with one of my favorite quotes.
I have heard several variations of this quote with references to Will Smith, Dave Ramsey, Tyler Durden, and even, well, Fight Club. In one way or another, the quote explains "We buy things we don’t need- with money we don’t have- to impress people we don’t like.”
When I first started to ponder these words, initially my mind lingered upon the "people we don't like" portion because honestly, I am the type of person who genuinely likes almost every.single.person I have ever met. This might sound a bit strange, but over the course of my life, I have strived to focus on the good that people have within their hearts when possible. I truly strive to seek that and think of them for those good things that make them who they are. While at times, people may put on a hard exterior or come across as not-so-friendly, we never truly know what someone else may be going through and therefore, I always try to give people an opportunity to shine, to have a clean slate, and to be themselves. All of this aside, when I started to think of this quote further, I started to realize that maybe it's not about people we "don't like," but rather, anyone who is not you.
When you pursue something in your life, what are the reasons or the "why" behind those actions? Does the illustration of your life reflect one of striving to nourish your body and soul or one where you are striving to impress others through seeking acceptance and approval from those around you? This can be an easy trap to fall into but today I encourage you to remember that you were created with such incredible value and you are perfect just the way you are. I pray that you realize how approved of, accepted, and loved you already are and that you allow yourself to invest in you.
Rather than feel like you have to try to fit in, impress others, or as if there are things that others may have that you do not, today, I hope that you can find joy and peace in all that you do have and peace in the notion that you are perfect exactly the way you are. May you be reminded today of all that you are capable of, of all of the people who build you up and love you and of the adventures and things you love to do.
With those things in your heart, I hope you explore, I hope you venture out of your comfort zone, I hope you seek to find what you have not yet discovered; all with exactly what you already have and with the people you love and who love you back.
Those moments of laughter, those memories that will always linger in our hearts and minds are the things we do need. That is what is truly important.
