1. Bring someone fresh flowers.
Flowers have a rare ability to add a sprinkle of happiness, delight, and positivity wherever they bloom. Studies have shown that flowers actually have an ability to have a long-lasting impact on one's mood and can truly brighten someone's day. I encourage you to energize the day for someone with fresh flowers. Not only will kindness be appreciated, but your shared blooms will linger and remind that person that they are loved!
2. Share anonymous words of encouragement.
It doesn't matter what form your words are in; whether they are on a pretty piece of card-stock anonymously left on someone's desk or if you simple leave a little note on lined notebook paper. Telling a stranger or someone they are doing a great job, lifting someone with an inspiring quote, or encouraging someone to be exactly who they are can be incredibly powerful. Sometimes these words of affirmation might be craved by someone who might not hear them anywhere else. What a gift to remind someone that they are perfect just for being themselves.
3. Be kind on social media platforms
Social media platforms enable us to express ourselves ubiquitously and can yield positivity in the best way possible. Today I encourage you to reminisce on the question of how you can positively contribute to someone's day, even the world around you. Today I encourage you to select words that will be received with hope. Words that are elegant, words of encouragement. Seek to discover the good in something or someone and support one another in our social communities.
4. Cook with color
A meal can be a gathering opportunity to share and enjoy a moment in time with those we love. How delectable each bite tastes over good conversation filled with laughter and joy. Oh, how meals linger in our memories and the flavors on our palate; reminders of the times we've shared some of our fondest memories over food.
In times of joy and times of sorrow, food is essential and can have an ability to comfort, to heal, to bring a sense of familiarity when all else feels like a wild ocean, tumbling around us.
I encourage you to cook....with color...with bright, healthy options. Fuel someone's next meal or two with something that will fill both their tummy and their heart. At work, we recently started a month long initiative for a man's whose wife recently underwent surgery. Every Tuesday and Thursday we take turns bringing either a dessert or a dinner for them both. My heart swelled as I watched coworkers quickly volunteer and fill their name in on the lines besides multiple listed dates; to bring multiple dishes. This notion was a reminder of all of the good that surrounds us...of all of the people who are so willing to be called to act, to help, to support. I encourage you to be a vessel of a healthy meal for someone. Your kindness will linger in each bite as they are reminded they are loved.
5. Write a thank you letter
This is truly one of my favorite ways to spread encouragement. A surprising and wonderful feeling comes from realizing that there is a handwritten letter mixed amidst advertisements and other letters that make their way into our mailboxes.
Sharing with someone, a sweet, thoughtful, encouraging letter could truly make someone's day. The best part is that you can write a thank you letter to anyone; to your parents, your siblings, your old roommate, your best friend, even someone you haven't crossed paths with in a while. Being intentional with our words and expressing their importance in our life could be an incredible blessing to them.
